Still adjusting to the mainland time from a grand getaway on Honolulu with the fam. We usually get the beach view every visit but decided to enjoy the fireworks, Luau, and Lagoon view this time around at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Always great hospitality in this village resort plus its perfect if you have kids. Beach life...so chill. More pics coming soon!

Japan was recently struck by an 8.9 earthquake on 03.11.11. A Tsunami lead right after causing Black Water to bleed into the streets damaging everything in it's path creating mass floods. Many suffer and the death toll still rises by the thousands. Silence for Japan.

RETNA HIEROGLYPHICS

I was able to take pics of LA based writer/ street artist RETNA. He made his mark within garage level B3 inside the newly built Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. "Wallworks Project" allowed artists such as Baltimore’s Shinique Smith, legendary New York artist Kenny Scharf, RETNA, and renegade-turned-icon Shepard Fairey paint the walls of the garage...all with different themes.

RETNA's unique style looks ancient but with a modern day feel to it. I can't make out the words but his artwork and symbols catch my attention. He was recently featured and had a solo exhibition of his work during NYC Fashion week in February 2011 at the "Hallelujah World Tour". I wouldn't mind his pieces to fill up a massive wall that I'll own one day. Keep doing your thing RETNA!!

Aside from other projects I have been given the opportunity to work with FTCC again and create a design concept for one of their talented Muay Thai fighters and trainer, Rodney "KNUCKLEHEAD" Marisol. Darren "BONE CRUSHER" Uyenoyama opened FTCC Mixed Martial Arts gym and has been around for two years now along side with Fine Line Barbershop which are both good folks and always great to work with. I'll post up more details before the fight in mid January...so make sure to check back after the New Year!

New York based Tattoo Artist Scott Campbell featured in Louis Vuitton's 2011 Spring/Summer Collection introduces a collaboration of art, fashion and lifestyle. LV will release a series of video's following Campbell around to various secret locations and keeping him really busy in designing and submitting new ideas. While pursuing his passion for what he does, Louis Vuitton continues to focus on ongoing projects with Campbell and expressing his day-to-day lifestyle.

I think it's nice that LV has an open mind to Campbell's insight and work of art in molding a creative collection. Its always good that you choose the right artist and not so much of the best to design a specific collection. Choose one that has meaning in his artwork. Creative expression makes the collection more authentic, real with purpose and not just another design. It's not always what's hot for the moment so it can sell. It's about giving chance and breaking that fear of what you may think is going to sit on the shelf. It's more or less of creating realism and being able to produce something your comfortable with, something people can relate to on the inside and not just the outside. Originality in what you do makes things so much more exclusive and gives purpose for each individuals recognition. Being able to communicate through design, photos, art, music, or fashion has no boundaries which allows you to be you.

"THE GREATNESS"

Yesterday 09.02.10 Yi Zhou unveiled project "I AM YOUR SIMULACRUM" at 20 Hoxton Square Projects in London. A Project that follows up on their 2009 video The Ear. "The Greatness" a retrospective show that dated back to 2006 utilizes complex 3D modeling software to re-create the face of Pharrell Williams onto a vase inspired by surrealist masks and Greek-style urns. The films premise follows the progression and eventual degradation of the vase to represent death. Shanghai-based Chinese creative Yi Zhou's exhibition will end on 09.11.10

Las Vegas Magic Convention....a time where Fashionistas gather in one city. Wondering what to wear, what to buy, where to fit in, how to fit in, how to stand out and where to go. A circulation of buying and selling necessities. Although inspiring, something else caught my eye. Don't know why but it just makes me wonder what are the stories behind some of these homeless people on the strip. As Hundreds passed him, he didn't seem to ask for any money and didn't even have a cup or sign out. This person seemed to represent everything opposite of what all of us came to Las Vegas for that week.

Clever idea...Props to SUPREME.

As far as I know DAMJN put game on Nunchucks years ago. A lot of skepticism towards the choice of this particular Martial Arts weapon being placed in our designs and didn’t make any sense to people. I felt that I needed a tool with purpose...something uncommon that represents me and not just a typical symbol used by many such as guns etc (not that I don't mind guns). The original Nunchaku consists of two sticks, a chain or rope and is complex in its use.

The sticks are made out of wood which symbolizes Strength,Longevity, and Expansion. Wood is a manipulating element that can be used for almost everything.

Chained Metal links symbolizes unity, brotherhood, Struggle, and for those of you who had run-ins with the Law I’m sure you can understand the relation of chains within your lifestyle.

I understand and believe that certain fashion is NOT for everyone..and it shouldn't be. To claim that your aesthetic is "Strictly" for everyone...its not true..not everything is for every individual. There is reason to all my designs and how it relates to my lifestyle or others whether past, present, or future. Its not just bandwagon product I create …its real life translated through art. If you can't relate to it...than its simply not for you.

DAMJN Discipline tee

Usually the first instinct on this design is a negative sign of violence that may involve a secret society. Its true, any disciplinary action that involves cracking someone’s dome is savagely violent and should remain secret. On the other hand it also can mean “Opening the Mind if its windows are covered with Blinds”-DEO DAMJN…to think a new and create self being without abiding what all of us seem to limit and discipline ourselves in our everyday life. Enlightened Lotus Cypher symbolizes Life/Rebirth and the purity of any ones well being. Live a little and think out the motherf***in box here and there. Vengeance strip on the back is that of to remind yourselves what you need to regain or achieve as if it was already yours.

The design can be stereo typically mislead, and that is what brings the joy into what I do. In order to understand you have to learn how to look beyond the cloth and not just whats on it or beneath it. One of The Greatest Tricks in the book was convincing the world that certain things didn't exist.

Heres a Nokia promo clip with Bruce Lee using the nunchuck in a whole different way...

Nunchucks built its popularity with Bruce Lee and he was able to use the weapon in Beating his opponent even without inflicting damage.

Meet the newest member of the Familia...I call him "El MAHICO"(Man on the Rise)! Going back to my childhood days on the "C" Block, bikes were not affordable and the only way to get one was to snatchem. Heartless to say as kids growing up we'd take bikes from next door neighbors doorsteps, 711's, boys club centers, schools or simply ride up on you. If you road your shiny new bike that your parents bought you for your birthday or Christmas...chances are we snatched it as well, even if you were homies. What could I say we were young and didn't know better living in such a damaging era. Most Lowrider bikes are one of a kind and built with keen detail expressing the owners artistic creativity. First time I ever seen a homemade Lowrider bike was when the O.G.s took a regular BMX and welded the front forks to bend them so that the bike would ride low, it was gangsta and I knew I had to have one. Lowrider bikes are definitely classics...look back and see how I rebuild this one.

They hug the ground where its built and exquisite in all areas of its form reminding me of where I came from....

The moment you were born you came into this life with the only REAL possessions that ever matter... Your body, the time you have to live, your autonomy, and all the gifted unique thoughts and ideas you have. Somewhere along the years you tend to give this all away..tarnishing your authenticity. All the while over the hard working years at your decent job you tend to glance back at what you wish you have pursued...countless to say that your witty ideas has grown to life through the hands of other individuals. The loss of energy to turn back so you conform towards a safe path to mask your inability of Self-Reliance and creativity. Now your dependant at the crutches of your job...your lack of Leadership has only lead you under the wings of your employer who only gave you 2-3 days out of the week to live your real life. Time is of essence now, your long pursuit to happiness has foiled and before its too late you've then realized you are not a man of value.

ASTRONOMICAL

In addition to showing the time of day, the 2nd Century BC Astronomical Clock was used to calculate the Sun, Moon, Stars, and Zodiacial signs. In the Center of the dials which are not included in the artwork is usually marked with a disc or sphere representing the Earth center of the Solar system. Aside from modern replicas, Ancient Astronomical Clocks no longer exist but detailed description of there design and construction still survive. Built as demonstration and exhibition pieces, they were highly to impress as well as educate and inform. The challenge of building these masterpieces demonstrated technical skill and their patron's Wealth.

In Prague, Natives claim that when the timepieces were created the town officials had the Clock maker blinded so that he would never duplicate his mastery with his hands. In Vengeance, the blind man had men climb the tower to stop his creation. The clock remained silent for more than fifty years.

While creating the new collection I tend to weave in portions of my beleif within me towards my designs. The ongoing pattern is a sign of Eternity/Forever and lays forward on the front of the tshirt which sheilds me to keep going in a forward path whatever obstacle it may be. A decorated Star symbolizes guidance...6 points resembles Balance(an eye for an eye). While visualizing the points connected, there are two triangles that point Up/Down, Forward/ Back, Fire/ Water Past/Future...everything then..and everything that will be. I've come to understand that my past has manifested to what I do either tomorrow or even decades to come. Ancient History has left its marks for Eternity, I plan to do the same.

Ace of Spades Champagne has been a tradition within DAMJN in our past celebrations, events, photoshoots etc. Last year we were accompanied with Gold Brut Bottles and this year we'll toast with the Rose Limited Edition in tradition of a TopShelf celebration.
